General foot massage
The foot is an ancient oriental microsystem. Treating points on the feet can have a direct effect on the body as a whole. It became well known after it was championed by an American Doctor called William Fitzgerald, who developed a system known as Zone therapy in the early 20th century, which later became known as Reflexology.
Reflexology theory holds that the shape of your foot roughly resembles the shape of your body with your head at your toes, your chest and the ball of your foot, the pine on the arch of your foot, and your abdomen and main organs in the centre of your foot, many of the lower positioned organs, such as the bladder and the intestines, are on the lower part of your foot. There are also many points on the nerve pathways which run along your feet, many of which are considered very potent in terms of treatment.
The following massage covers many of the areas on your foot and can be very beneficial both locally on your foot and also generally in your body.
Press with your thumb at the central point just before the ball of your heel. Then move your thumb forward while pressing and rotating up to the tip of your little toe. At the tip gently pull your toe to stretch it. Repeat with the other four toes.
