Ever since I became an acupuncturist I was fascinated with Gua sha. There was something about it that rang true for me and the more I looked into it.
My experiences in the 1990s doing research in rehabilitation programs in Uganda had given me a passion for exploring ways in which self-care treatments can be enhanced. But it wasn't until I set up a chronic illness clinic in a Spanish enclave in North Africa that I could experiment more with Gua sha and learn first-hand how it can be used on a wide variety of people.
What was still missing was the unifying link which brought all the strands of Gua sha together, for beauty and for health.
The seeds of Ecology in Motion™ were planted within me when my family and I lived on the Japanese island of Yakushima. We lived on the edge of the national park and I divided my time as a flying fish fisherman in the East China Sea and as a wood craftsman working with thousand-year-old trees. The vivid experiences of nature that we had stayed with me and it was an easy progression to eventually fuse the ancient Chinese ideas of the Neijing nature-based medicine with that of Gua sha practice.
And this is where Ecology in Motion™ Gua sha comes from. It's the fruition of a long personal journey to understand Gua sha and how it can be adapted to the face and the body. This means that it can stay true to its Chinese medicine origins while being applied to what we do now in the 21st century in the world of beauty and health.
